Greetings!
Judging for 2011 is completed! 38 communities from across the Show Me state competed in 6 categories as part of the 2011 MCB Award Competition.
The real benefit of Community Betterment is the good we do in our hometowns - and the competition is just the icing on the cake.
This newsletter is again providing information on getting registered for the conference, making hotel reservations, and the conference program.
Don't forget that October 1 is the dead-line for a lower hotel registration rate!

Register for the MCB Conference
The annual MCB Conference is set for October 16-17th at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City.
Registration materials are now available on
the MCB Web Site. A brochure will also be mailed to communities and neighborhoods. MCB continues to underwrite a large portion of the conference fees.
MCB has applied for and is waiting for approval of a grant that will allow all youth award nominees free registration and one night's lodging, and all adult award nominees to receive a free conference registration. We could have funds from this grant to pay for youth and adult registration and lodging if the individual or community does not have funds to cover these expenses. These funds will be on a first come first served basis. Please contact Jan Simon at 417-334-3474, or at mcb@iland.net for more information.
The "Early Bird" registration deadline is October 7. Tables of ten (10) may be reserved for the Monday, October 17 Awards Banquet. Reservations must be received by October 7. Please fill out the registration form by marking each meal that you anticipate attending. This allows MCB to keep costs down as much as possible. Please indicate on the form if the person registering is a youth participant. This will allow for adequate space in the youth programs.
Deadline for Hotel Reservations
The deadline for reservations for the MCB block of rooms at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City is October 1. Rooms may be available after that date, but at an increased rate.
The rate is $75.00 per night plus state tax of $5.79 and lodging tax of $5.25. Please call the hotel at 573-635-1234, or toll free at 800-338-8088 and ask for the group block "MCB."
Please find the hotel registration form on the MCB Web Site. Send the registration form along with payment or credit card information to:

Conference Program Announced
The 48th Annual Missouri Community Betterment Conference Program is available on the MCB Web Site. MCB has been fortunate this year to again have a Youth and Adult Planning Committee to help plan the schedule of events for the conference. We have also relied on the comments that communities and neighborhoods have shared from previous MCB conferences.
There will again be a youth and adult track of programming at the conference this year.
Please plan to attend the 2011 MCB Annual Conference whether your community is entered in this year's competition or not. Conference time has been scheduled for communities and neighborhoods to share information with each other, and display booths from various resource organizations will be available.
2011 MCB Award Competition Participants
MCB is pleased to have the following communities participating in the MCB Awards Program this year. They are listed in alphabetical order by categories:
Category 1: Allendale, South Iron Annapolis, Caledonia, Jameson, Sheridan, Sumner,
and Tri-C.
Category 2: Grant City, Green City, Lowry City, Novinger, and Paris.
Category 3: Albany, Arcadia Valley, Bourbon, Hamilton, Shelbina, and Steelville.
Category 4: Bethany, Cabool, Canton, Houston, Louisiana, and Windsor.
Category 5: Bonne Terre, Eldon, Higginsville, Lamar, Lexington, Salem, and Trenton.
Category 6: Chillicothe, Clinton, Kirksville, Moberly, Perryville, Pleasant Hill, and Sedalia.
MCB Auctions
It's time to think about the Silent and Live Auctions that are scheduled for the 2011 MCB conference. These have been very successful during past conferences, and have helped a great deal with the expenses for the youth program. This year's auctions proceeds will again be designated entirely for youth programs.
Each community that has entered the 2011 Award competition will soon be receiving a letter with a form and details enclosed requesting items for the Silent Auction.
MCB is asking each community to donate something (a basket representing the community, an item, or whatever they choose) for either auction. The items can be brought to the conference on Sunday afternoon.
The Live Auction will take place Sunday evening with the Trivia event and Talent Show, and the Silent Auction will be operating until just before the Monday Night Banquet.
This is a chance to showcase your community by not only sharing local community talent in the Talent Show, but also by promoting your community with local products or items.
Please consider helping MCB by joining in this effort. If you have any questions when your community receives the letter, please contact Carolee Hazlet at 660-263-3345 or email to
carolee@mcmsys.com.
Missouri State Penitentiary Tour
This tour is $15 per person, which includes transportation from the hotel to the Penitentiary, and return to the hotel. The tour includes the upper yard, take a seat in the oldest housing unit from 1868, hear history and interesting stories of the inmates, tour underground dungeon cells, and tour the gas chamber. This tour is not suitable for wheelchairs, crutches, or walkers. *Important: Any student under the age of 18 must have a Waiver and Release of Liability form signed by a parent or guardian for the student. Anyone over age 18 may sign for themselves.
Community Booths
Plan to share information about your community or neighborhood at the MCB Conference. This is a great way to showcase your community or neighborhood, and there is no booth rental fee. Call and reserve your space now. Booth set up is on Sunday afternoon and takedown is after the banquet, Monday evening.
If your community or neighborhood would like to have a booth, please contact Jan Simon at 417-334-3474 or mcb@iland.net.
