Greetings!

Judging for 2007 is completed. 46 communities from across the Show Me state competed in 6 categories as part of the 2007 MCB Award Competition.

The real benefit of Community Betterment is the good we do in our hometowns - but the competition is just the icing on the cake.

This newsletter is again providing information on getting registered for the conference, making hotel reservations and the conference program. Don't forget that October 1 is the deadline for a lower hotel registration rate!

Register for MCB Conference

The annual MCB Conference is set for October 21st- 22nd at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City.

Registration materials are now available on the mcb web site. A brochure will also be mailed to communities and neighborhoods. There is a small increase in the conference fees this year due to the rising cost of the conference. We are pleased to announce that the fees for youth have been reduced to encourage attendance. MCB continues to underwrite a large portion of the conference fees. MCB has applied for and received a grant that will allow all youth award nominees free registration and one night's lodging and all adult award nominees free registration.

The Early Bird Registration deadline is October 10. Tables of eight (8) may be reserved for the Monday, October 22 Awards Banquet. Reservations must be received by October 10. Please fill out the registration form by marking each meal that you anticipate attending. It allows MCB to keep costs down as much as possible. Please indicate on the form if the person registering is a youth participant. We want to have adequate space in the youth programs.

Deadline for Hotel Reservation

The deadline for reservations for the MCB block of rooms at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City is October 1st. Rooms may be available after that date, but at an increased rate.

The rate is $72.00 plus state tax $4.84 and lodging tax $2.16. This is a lower rate than we have had previously. Call 573-635-1234 or toll free 800-338- 8088 and ask for the group block MCB.

The hotel registration form is HERE. Send reservation form along with payment or credit card information to Capitol Plaza Hotel, 415 W. McCarty, Jefferson City, MO 65101.

Conference Program Announced

The 44th Annual Missouri Community Betterment Conference Program is available on the mcb web site. We have been fortunate this year to again have a Youth and an Adult Planning Committee to help plan the schedule of events for our conference. We have also relied on the comments that the communities and neighborhoods shared with us at the previous conference the the regional meetings.

We will again have a Youth Pool Party and Hospitality Room on Sunday as well as a DJ with karaoke after the Live Auction and Talent Show. There will be a youth and adult track of programs this year. Most of the sessions will be separate, but we will be joining together for the "How to start or reactivate a youth group in your community".

Please plan to attend the MCB Conference this year whether you submitted an entry or not. We have scheduled time for communities and neighborhoods to share information with each other and provided display booths from various resource organizations. Several programs will feature communities sharing information about their successful projects.

MCB Auctions

It is time to think about the Silent and Live auctions we have every year. These have been very successful and helped a great deal with the expenses for the youth program for which the proceeds are designated.

Each community that has entered this year will soon be receiving a letter with a form enclosed to send in to put something in the auction. The details will be enclosed.

We are asking the communities to donate something, such as a basket representing their community, an item or whatever they choose for either auction. The items can be brought to the conference on Sunday afternoon.

The live auction will take place during the Pizza Party/Talent Show on Sunday night. The Silent Auction will be in place until the Monday night banquet.

Here is a chance to show off your community by not only sharing your talent in the talent show but by also promoting your community with products or items as you may have promotional material displayed by your item in the Silent Auction.

We hope you will join us in this effort. If you have any questions when you receive the letter please call Carolee Hazlet at 660-263-3345 or e-mail carolee@mcmsys.com.

Enter the Talent Show

Sunday night's activities will once again include a Community Talent Show. Individuals or community groups who would like to show off their special talents should contact Jan Simon at 660-259-4409 or mcb@iland.net.

When calling, be sure to provide details on the type of act, the length and number of people involved. A stage and PA system will be provided. If you need any special equipment or musical instruments, you must arrange to bring them.

Community Booths

Plan to share information about your community or neighborhood at the MCB Conference. This is a great way to showcase your community or neighborhood and there is no booth rental fee. Call and reserve your space now. Booth set up is on Sunday afternoon and takedown is after the banquet Monday evening.

If your community or neighborhood would like to have a booth please contact Jan Simon at 660-259-4409 or mcb@iland.net.
