Whether sharing the story of a one-eyed butcher dancing in the local beer tent or explaining why you should never stand behind a sneezing cow (it has to do with several of the properties of physics, including contents under pressure) (also, you will have to do laundry), I cherish the fact that from Duluth, Minnesota to Jackson, Mississippi, and from Petaluma, California to New York City, people relate to stories about chimney fires and pet geese and volunteer firefighters because these are stories in which we recognize our neighbors, no matter where we are from. Happiness and heartbreak live right next door, and it has ever been so. Although this presentation is drawn from a rural and small town perspective, it’s larger point is this: whether we live in Brooklyn or the boondocks, in the end we are all just looking for ways to live peacefully – and sometimes goofily – among our neighbors. The bulk of the presentation consists of lively interpretations of subject matter drawn from the books Population 485: Meeting Your Neighbors One Siren at a Time and Truck: A Love Story as well as the live recordings I Got it From the Cows and Never Stand Behind a Sneezing Cow.
