Greetings!
As you are gathering information and starting to put your community's project books together, we want to provide you with some additional resources. Again this year we will be placing copies of project books from different population categories on the MCB Web Site.
We want to be sure that you are using the 2009 Project Book guidelines and entry materials as you prepare for the MCB Award Competition.
You will find them re-printed here from the April "Community Matters" Newsletter, and this information is also available on the MCB Web Site, where it may be entered online or printed and then filled out. You will also find reprinted here the 2009 Calendar of Events so that you will have that information readily available.
Missouri Community Betterment's address remains: 1702 Cedar Ridge Way, Branson West, Missouri 65737-9278. Telephone 417-334-3474 and Fax 417-334-3475. MCB's email is
mcb@iland.net and the Web Site is

Please use this information for all correspondence with Jan Simon and Missouri Community Betterment.

MCB Sponsor Luncheon
Missouri Community Betterment
recently hosted a luncheon to honor
and thank MCB sponsors. Without
their support, MCB would be unable
to provide assistance to communities
across the state.
The sponsors in attendance had an
opportunity to visit with each
other, and meet the MCB Board of
Directors. Executive Director Jan
Simon presented a powerpoint
presentation on the MCB Program,
current and new MCB projects, and
shared with the sponsors the many
ways that MCB promotes their
businesses. The sponsors actively
shared their thoughts and ideas on a
variety of related topics.
This is an event that MCB plans to
continue in the future. If you know
of a potential sponsor for MCB,
please contact Jan Simon at
417-334-3474, or at
mcb@iland.net.

Community Visit
Missouri Community
Betterment is fortunate to have
received funds through the
Neighborhood Assistance Program
(NAP) project that help to
keep costs down for communities to
attend the MCB Annual Conference,
and to allow Jan Simon to be able to
make individual visits to
communities at no charge.
The Criteria for a Community Visit
has been developed by the MCB Board
and is available on the
MCB Web Site
by clicking on the "Community Visit
Criteria." Communities that choose
to meet the criteria (either send
community members to the MCB Annual
Conference this year, or have their
community participate in the Awards
Competition no later than next year)
may contact Jan Simon at
314-334-3474 or by e-mail at
mcb@iland.net
to discuss a community visit
request.
Visits will be made to communities
until funds are expended so plan to
contact Jan as soon as possible!
Community Plan Important!
Since planning is such a vital part of
each community betterment organization,
MCB wants to encourage you to review
your community's plan from last year
and make any changes that your
community feels are needed.
If your community determines that it
is time to develop a new plan,
please go to the
MCB Web Site "Planning Guide"
for possible suggestions on how to
start work on the new plan - using
whichever style of plan your
community chooses to use. The
MCB Community Inventory Form
is another community planning tool
that is available.
When considering the projects your
community chooses to enter into the
MCB awards Competition this year,
remember they should relate to your
current community plan.
Project Book Examples are being placed on the MCB Web Site
MCB wants to provide communities with as
much assistance as possible as they
prepare for the 2009 MCB Awards
Competition. MCB is currently working to
place three copies of Project Books and
one disk format from different
population categories on the
MCB Web Site.
These examples will give new or
reactivating communities and
neighborhoods a starting point as they
assemble information and put their
project books together. For the
communities and neighborhoods that have
participated in the MCB Awards
Competition for many years, these will
be examples of how other community
organizations compose their project
books. Communities can then determine if
they would like to try a new style of
community project presentation.
If your community would like to use
this valuable resource, please check
back to the
MCB Web Site
often.

2009 MCB Award
Competition Materials |
|
The 2009 MCB Award Competition Materials are now available on the MCB Web Site.
There are NO entry fees again this year. MCB is able to keep participation costs low due to having received the NAP Grant, and because of generous donations from our sponsors.
The 2009 MCB Project Book or Projects Disk will have the same format as last year. The book should contain a maximum of 38 pages. Section One should have a maximum of 13 pages. Section Two should have no more than 25 pages, and should feature no more than five (5) projects. (If a community is submitting their project book on a disk, one paper copy must be submitted to MCB for display at the 2009 Conference.)
The 2009 MCB Conference Theme is "MCB: Where Every Community Matters."
Communities entering the 2009 MCB Awards Competition must plan to have a local representative from their community attend the 2009 MCB Annual Conference October 18 and 19 in Jefferson City to accept any recognition or Award(s) that may be bestowed on the community.
If you have any questions, or need any assistance, please contact Jan Simon at 417-334-3474 or at
mcb@iland.net.
MCB Judges Needed
If you, or someone you know is interested in
being involved in judging Missouri
communities and neighborhoods, please
contact MCB Executive Director Jan Simon at
417-334-3474 or at
mcb@iland.net. Judges
will meet in Columbia on Sunday afternoon,
September 13 for judges' training. The
judging process starts Monday, September 14,
and concludes Thursday, September 17.
Judges will visit communities and
neighborhoods across the state that will be
divided by population. Expenses during the
judging week are paid by MCB. This is a
wonderful opportunity to get to see the
communities, meet their membership, and hear
about their exceptional projects.
