Greetings!

MCB Award Competition entry forms and permission statements are starting to arrive. If your community has not submitted these forms yet, please do so postmarked by June 30, 2009. All entry materials may be found on the MCB Web Site. To assist you, we have also placed project books and a project disk from different population communities on the Web Site. Reminder: project books or disks, adult and youth leadership nominations, and the contact list are due postmarked by July 31, 2009.

We want to be sure that you are using the 2009 Project Book guidelines and entry materials as you prepare for the MCB Award Competition. You will find them here again from the May "Community Matters" Newsletter. This information is also available on the MCB Web Site, where it may be entered online, or printed and then filled out. You will also find reprinted here the 2009 Calendar of Events so that you will have that information readily available.

2009 MCB Calendar of Events

To assist you in planning for the 2009 MCB Conference, we would like to give you the following information:

Project Entry Form and MCB Permission Statement Form Deadline - June 30, 2009.
Project Books, Adult and Youth Nomination Forms and Community Contact Form Deadline - July 31, 2009.
MCB Judges Make Community Visits September 14-17, 2009.
MCB Conference, Capitol Plaza Hotel, Jefferson City, October 18-19, 2009.

Project Book Examples are available on the MCB Web Site

MCB wants to provide communities with as much assistance as possible as they prepare for the 2009 MCB Awards Competition. MCB has placed three copies of Project Books and one disk format from different population categories on the MCB Web Site.

These examples will give new or reactivating communities and neighborhoods a starting point as they assemble information and put their project books together. For the communities and neighborhoods that have participated in the MCB Awards Competition for many years, these will be examples of how other community organizations compose their project books. Communities can then determine if they would like to try a new style of community project presentation.

If you would like to use this MCB resource, please go to the MCB Web Site and review the Project Book examples, then start working on your community project book or disk in the style you choose to use. The pages following each project may be filled with newspaper articles, photos, or other documents that provide more information about the project. Remember, the project book is the first opportunity that the MCB Judges will have to learn about your projects before they actually visit your community or neighborhood.

The community project book may be submitted electronically. As an example, a Power Point presentation, Word documents, or Excel documents may be submitted as the electronic project book entry. One paper copy of this electronic presentation must be submitted to MCB for use by the MCB Judges, and for display at the Annual Conference.

Plan Now to Attend the 46th Annual MCB Conference!

The MCB Adult and Youth Planning Committees have worked hard to select timely topics and outstanding speakers for the 46th Annual MCB Annual Conference. The conference will be held again this year at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City. Events will start on Sunday evening and conclude with the Awards Banquet on Monday evening.

MCB strongly encourages all Missouri communities to enter the 2009 Awards competition. If it is not possible this year, please plan to send community representatives to the Annual Conference. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet people from other community betterment organizations, review community Project Book entries, visit with vendors that can assist your community with future projects, and hear great speakers on community topics of great interest to both youth and adults.

Mark October 18-19, 2009 on your calendars and plan to attend the 46th Annual MCB Conference. MCB will be featuring topics and speakers in our upcoming MCB newsletters. Watch the excitement build as we celebrate MCB: Where Every Community Matters!

MCB Judges Needed!

If you, or someone you know is interested in being involved in judging Missouri communities and neighborhoods, please contact MCB Executive Director Jan Simon at 417-334-3474 or at mcb@iland.net. Judges will meet in Columbia on Sunday afternoon, September 13 for judges' training. The judging process starts Monday, September 14, and concludes Thursday, September 17.

Judges will visit communities and neighborhoods across the state that will be divided by population. Expenses during the judging week are paid by MCB. This is a wonderful opportunity to get to see the communities, meet their membership, and hear about their exceptional projects.

2009 MCB Award Competition Materials
The 2009 MCB Award Competition Materials are now available on the MCB Web Site. There are NO entry fees again this year. MCB is able to keep participation costs low due to having received the NAP Grant, and because of generous donations from our sponsors.

The 2009 MCB Project Book or Projects Disk will have the same format as last year. The book should contain a maximum of 38 pages. Section One should have a maximum of 13 pages. Section Two should have no more than 25 pages, and should feature no more than five (5) projects. (If a community is submitting their project book on a disk, one paper copy must be submitted to MCB for display at the 2009 Conference.) The 2009 MCB Conference Theme is "MCB: Where Every Community Matters."

Communities entering the 2009 MCB Awards Competition must plan to have a local representative from their community attend the 2009 MCB Annual Conference October 18 and 19 in Jefferson City to accept any recognition or Award(s) that may be bestowed on the community.

If you have any questions, or need any assistance, please contact Jan Simon at 417-334-3474 or at mcb@iland.net.
