Jan Simon of Dover, Missouri, has been selected as the Executive Director of Missouri Community Betterment.
Most recently she was the Executive Director for the Lexington Economic Development Council. She has served as an officer, chairperson or committee member in over 35 diverse organizations. Issues addressed included city government, community development, branding, Main Street, historic downtown development, leadership development, tourism, education, health, child abuse, transportation, recreation, domestic violence and religion.
She is a graduate from Central Missouri State University and the Economic Development Institute. She has completed courses in Leadership Training, Board Development, Grant Writing and Foundation Development.
Community Betterment has been the leading community development effort in the state for over 40 years. The program promotes community assessment and planning, priority setting, volunteer organization and celebration of success.
Entered communities are visited in the fall by a judging team and the most progressive communities are then recognized at a conference in Columbia in October. Volunteer leaders are also honored.
